چکیده

Material measurement standard etalons are widely recognized as critical for accurate measurements in any field. The absence of standard etalons in software measurement is having a negative impact on software engineers when they come to use measurement results in decision-making. To verify measurement results and ensure unambiguous comparability across contexts, researchers in software measurement should design standard etalons and incorporate them into the design of every measure proposed. Since the design process for establishing standard etalons for software measures has not yet been investigated, this paper tackles this issue and illustrates the application of this process using ISO 19761: COSMIC-FFP. Key-Words: Software Engineering, Metrics, Software Measurement, ISO 19761, COSMIC-FFP, Standard etalon.

Analysis of Software Measures Using Metrology Concepts - ISO 19761 Case Study

To help identify the strengths of proposed software measurement methods, this paper proposes an analytical approach based on metrology concepts documented in the ISO International Vocabulary of Basic and General Terms in Metrology. This approach is illustrated with a case study using one specific functional size measurement method recognized as an ISO standard: COSMIC-FFP (ISO 19761). The case ...

Non-Functional Requirements: Size Measurement and Testing with COSMIC-FFP

The non-functional requirements (NFRs) of software systems are well known to add a degree of uncertainty to process of estimating the cost of any project. This paper contributes to the achievement of more precise project size measurement through incorporating NFRs into the functional size quantification process. We report on an initial solution proposed to deal with the problem of quantitativel...

Scenario -based Black-Box Testing in COSMIC-FFP

A functional size measurement method, COSMIC-FFP, which was adopted in 2003 as the ISO/IEC 19761 standard, measures software functionality in terms of the data movements across and within the software boundary. It focuses on the functional user requirements of the software and is applicable throughout the development life cycle, from the requirements phase up and including to the implementation...

COSMIC-FFP & Functional Complexity (FC) Measures: A Study of their Scales, Units and Scale Types

This paper presents an overview of some measurement concepts across both COSMIC-FFP, an ISO standard (ISO/IEC 19761) for functional size measurement and Functional Complexity (FC), an entropy-based measure. It investigates in particular three metrological properties (scale, unit and scale type) in both of these measurement methods.

COSMIC-FFP (ISO 19761) represents the second generation of functional size of the software, based on its ease of understanding and use and it is applicable to various kinds of software applications; this new method has achieved rapidly an ISO recognition as an international standard as well as market acceptance in various countries. Several organizations are therefore interested in using conver...
